Just so you know

While Detroit is in DC begging for money to make things no one wants at prices no one wants to pay, The Amazon Kindle is sold out.

Oh, and those "big discounts on big screen Tv's" and "Shoppers not buying", take it from my personal observations over the past few days that both of those things are simply not true. It might not be as big as last year, but after standing in lines in several big item stores over the past day, I can assure you that people are buying big ticket items.

And I just checked a couple of the real estate options I have been watching closely, and both of them have sold in the past week. They have been on the market for about a year, and both of them have sold - in November! I also know of two Christmas tree lots in the area that are already sold out of trees. Did they plan for the downturn and simply not bring as many trees? Probably, but is that bad? I dont think so. Sure, it goes against the current "boo-hoo bad news" paradigm, but there you go.

There might be a recession going on out there but I'm just choosing to not participate in it.

***WHY??!?!?!?***

%-S

The function it performs could be better filled by an Asus eee, for only a little more money.

I have to say, anyone who buys something like a Kindle has too much money to spend -- and yes, that was true for a $600 IPhone, too. If it doesn't come across the room and **offer** to give me head for that kind of money, for a special-purpose gadget, it's way overpriced.

The Netbooks are cool, but I already have a laptop( as does the intended person who will be recieving the gift). what I(we) dont have is a small, lightweight repository thats tied to an internet bookstore that sells books at a siginficant discount in electronic form that can be updated via EVDO and Wifi. Thats not a Sony E-book, thats not a netbook, thats a kindle. Kindles best feature isnt what it is, but who it is seamlessly linked to - Amazon, bookseller of the modern age.

Ive tried the Sony E-book, and I like it because its metal, but its not tied to Amazon. netbooks, it should go without saying that I love them, but its got the same problem as e-book. I think Kindle has the right mix.

My only fear about the kindle is a week after I guy it a color graphics version will arrive, just to piss me off.

Fred:

Frank is being quite serious there.

Look through his archives and you will find articles of his about telecommuting, in which he's doing his best to be ahead of the curve.

... Now if only I had a job to telecommute to.

( highly recommended by yours truly)

Good luck!
